The Fantail or pīwakawaka has a distinctive fanned tail and loud song, and is one of New Zealand’s most well known birds, particularly because it often approaches within a metre or two of people. With its friendly ‘cheet cheet’ call and energetic flying antics, the fantail is one of the most common and widely distributed native birds on the New Zealand mainland. This ceramic version captures the Fantail in all its glory and looks stunning in the garden or sitting inside on a shelf or table-top.
