Original Sarah C Artwork: Pipi Flat Gold
Part of the “This is My Rock” series of artworks. A mixed media, experimental artwork on canvas with accents of gold. An expressive piece, inspired by nature and Mangawhai. Ready to hang, 36 x 24”.
Often a pipi fritter began its journey on the pipi flats, gathered at low tide from the Mangawhai Harbour.
Also the site of a whale stranding in October 1988. Fifty pilot whales trapped in shallow water eventually headed out to sea after 250 volunteers, including schoolchildren, struggled throughout the night to save them. But another 40 whales died of exhaustion on the shore. Red and gold is used to represent this prescious harbour, the sand and the life it gives and takes away.
